Belgrade

Belgrade Fortress

Ada Ciganlija

The Pearls of Banat – Belocrkvanska Lakes

Scattered like pearls, the Belocrkvanska Lakes captivate visitors with their unique charm. Each lake offers something special—quiet beaches for relaxation, lively spots for fun, giant fish for anglers, and perfect winds for surfers and sailors. Kids never want to leave the water! Formed in the early 1900s through gravel excavation, these artificial lakes have become a major attraction in Bela Crkva, often called the “City of Lakes.” Their stable shores and favorable water conditions support recreation, sports, fishing, and birdwatching. Rich biodiversity includes numerous fish species and diverse birdlife, making the lakes a paradise for nature lovers. Popular lakes like Gradsko, Vračevgajsko, Šaransko, and Šljunkara offer great activities, while the more secluded ones appeal to divers and passionate anglers. Together, they form the “Pearl Necklace of Banat,” perfectly complementing the nearby Deliblatska Peščara nature reserve.

SREMSKI KARLOVCI is a place of romantic encounter with culture and history that enchants you the moment you step into the historic old town of an unspoiled atmosphere in baroque setting. Hiking, Cycling and Sailing

From early spring to late autumn, you can visit Sremski Karlovci with the intention of exploring part of the Kovilj-Petrovaradin Marsh, home to a rich variety of birds, insects, and fish. „Karlovci Grape Picking“

During the grape harvest season, you are welcomed by three days of celebration in honor of the wine at the popular “Grožđebal” (Karlovci Grape Picking). The tradition of viticulture in the Fruška Gora region of Srem dates back to Roman times. Over the centuries, Karlovci became a renowned wine center whose wines gained international acclaim. Today, there are 24 registered wineries in this small town. During festival, winemakers offer their wines in the town square, but they are also happy to welcome you into their cellars year-round and share fascinating stories from the world of wine.

Cultural Tourism Festival “KULTFEST”

On weekends during the summer in Sremski Karlovci, you can enjoy a variety of engaging cultural events as part of “KultFest.” The festival features programs in music, visual arts, film, dance, and theater. What makes this festival unique is that the events take place at various locations throughout the town. In doing so, it promotes the town’s cultural heritage as well as the local community—including associations of visual artists, youth, musicians, and others—while highlighting the authenticity of the local culture.

Gastronomy

In the very center of the town of Sremski Karlovci and on the Danubes bank, there are lively restaurants where you can freshen up with excellent gastronomic selections. Among the most famous specialties are kuglof, a typical local cake whose tradition is proudly kept here, as well as Bermet, the famed Karlovci dessert wine of unique and irresistible aroma. The quality and beauty of this wine is perhaps best exemplified by the fact that bermet was included on Titanic’s wine list.

Požarevac

There is an exit on highway E-75 eighty kilometres away from Belgrade which leads to the city of Pozarevac. Good communication and interesting events make this city luring to visitors. Once here, they will want to come again. It would be a pity not to come and visit these parts of Serbia.

Although each part of the city has its own peculiar charm, it is the street called Stari Korzo that has a special meaning to the locals, much the same as Skadarlia has to Belgradians, Plaka to Athenians and Montmartre to Parisians. Every corner and every lane brims with new tourist attractions: museums, galleries, remains of the past and 19th century buildings all immersed in the city’s contemporary way of living.

Wherever you go in Eastern Serbia, from the Danube to the mighty Djerdap, and further on to the enchanting villages deep in the Homolje Mountains, you will encounter a lot of interesting things. One of those is the city of Pozarevac, a place where reality merges into legends, and it is sometimes difficult to make the distinction between the two…

Milena Pavlovic – Barilli Art Gallery

This art gallery is situated in the house where famous artist Milena Pavlovic-Barilli was born. It is in the city centre, right next to the Museum. In 1962 the artist’s mother Danica donated this house to the City of Pozarevac, and later it was turned into a commemorative gallery. The majority of Milena’s paintings are exhibited here. Milena lived and worked between the two world wars. Milena was born over a century ago, in 1909, as the only child of Danica and Bruno, an Italian composer. She lived both in Pozarevac and Rome, as her parents were separated. The separation of her parents had a great impact on Milena and her later work. Her restless spirit took her to Spain, London, Paris, Venice and the US, where she died in 1945. In the US, Milena worked as an illustrator for the most prestigious woman fashion magazines, such as Vogue, Charm and Glamour. She was also a costume designer for ballet performances.

Ljubičevo Stables

Ljubicevo is one of the oldest horse farms in Serbia. It was established in 1860, by the Prince Milos Obrenovic at his “Morava” estate located next to the Great Morava River, 5 km away from the city. Its purpose was to enhance equestrian sports by breeding pure breed horses. Later on, his son Mihailo, in honour of his mother, princess Ljubica, named this 300-hectare estate “Ljubicevo”. A residence built on this estate was named Ljubica’s residence. There are also several stables in which the prince kept his horses. In the beginning of the 20th century, this horse farm with its 500 horses became one of the most respectable institutions of its kind in Europe. Some of its most famous horses were: Ljubicevac, Kastor, Ramoz and Hajdzan. A monument honouring Ljubicevac (the horse that won Triple Crown and was known as “the unbeatable galloper”) is located in the center of this oasis of peace, among its many lanes which are perfect for taking strolls. Closely related to Ljubicevo is a tourist and sport event known as “Ljubicevo equestrian games “.

Ljubicevo Equestrian Games

This festival for all the citizens of Pozarevac and especially for those who love equestrian sports, has been held each year since 1964, in the beginning of September. At that time, the symbolic opening of the Pozarevac city gates marks the beginning of the tourist and sport event called “Ljubicevo equestrian games”. Starting with the ceremonial parade of all the participants, and all the way until the last competition, the racecourse is filled with spectators cheering their favourites on.
The program of these games is filled with local customs, tradition and culture, and includes the following events: unique Ljubicevo multi-disciplinary tournament (locally known as “viseboj”), children initial exercise in overcoming equestrian skills, horse exhibition, endurance riding, hurdle horse races, gallop and trotter races. Ljubicevo multi-disciplinary tournament is a unique and most dynamic competition of brave young men who are riding specially selected horses and competing in five traditional disciplines: saber-cutting, hitting target with a spear, courier riding, hitting target with an arrow and hitting target with a mace.

The Archeological Site of Viminacium

Viminacium is an archaeological site located in the vicinity of Stari Kostolac, 12 km away from Pozarevac. Military camp from the Roman era, which was established in the 1st century A.D. lasted up until the 7th century. Tens of thousands of inhabitants lived in Viminacium, while the military camp around which the town was originally founded, was the headquarters of Claudius 7th Regiment. Viminacium was destroyed in 441 by the Huns, and although it never fully recovered from such a serious destruction, it was rebuilt as the frontier settlement in the times of Justinian the First, in 535. A.D. It continued to exist as such, all the way until its end. Archaeological excavation conducted at this place revealed 14.000 graves and 50.000 objects, 1000 of which were made of gold. All the movable artefacts, marble sculptures, gravestones and sarcophagus, as well as the jewelry and vessels, are kept in the National Museums in Pozarevac and in Belgrade.

Cycling through Iron Gate

EuroVelo 6 is a cycling route that connects the Atlantic ocean with the Black sea. The total length of this route in Serbia is around 667km. The important point on this route is Iron Gate, which is the home of popular Danube cycling route that takes you through 110km long collection of natural treasures and culturally historical monuments.

Cycling through first and only geopark in Serbia

Cycling route Kozica-Boljetinska reka canyon is 18km long. This route goes through real natural phenomenon and finally takes you to picturesque canyon of Boljetinska reka river, which is the first protected geoheritage site in Djerdap area. This canyon lets visitors peek into the fascinating geological past of this region, that dates from more than 150 million years ago.
